I have a great deal of admiration for his work, but I believe he is dealing in technicalities of the law that aren't an issue here.

While Sundays are celebrated as part of the Lenten season, they cannot be considered days of penance, or at least not quite as penitential as other days of Lent, but rather celebration of the resurrection. So, they have a different flavor or character to them. This is why I don't get caught up in the "technicalities", especially because the Church is silent (or in this case somewhat confusing, because different documents say different things, such as the Missal, the Liturgy of the Hours, Code of Canon Law, etc.)

So, my recommendation stands - do penance on Sunday if you feel called to and that was the point, not the technicality of a fuzzy law.Marcelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18121158394600137195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5094967570243723764.post-52090696030835696472008-02-06T11:25:00.000-06:002008-02-06T11:25:00.000-06:00FROM A READER (my response will be next)I attempte...FROM A READER (my response will be next)
I attempted to leave a comment on your blog, but don’t have an account, so email was the next easiest. I disagree with your definition of Sunday’s not being a part of Lent. Personal preferences on fasting and penitence aside, the Church is quite clear on this, as shown here:

http://www.jimmyakin.org/2004/03/sundays_in_lent_4.html

Again, I’m sure that your post was with the best of intentions and I applaud your efforts at Texas A&M (I’ve heard of great things happening in that area). Just thought you would like to know.

God bless,
KevinMarcelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18121158394600137195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5094967570243723764.post-89664583021731677272008-02-06T07:20:00.000-06:002008-02-06T07:20:00.000-06:00Great post!
