There Be Dragons.
Coming May 2011 - A film about St. Josemaria Escriva. I saw the film last summer (review here). It is excellent.
Soul Surfer.
Out currently, it is a story of a young girl's faith in the midst of suffering. Steven Greydanus reviews it here.
Of Gods and Men.
A film about Monks in Algeria who are martyred. Getting rave reviews and winning awards. In limited release.
Cristiada.
About the Mexican Government's persecution of the Catholic Church and religious freedom. A story too few Americans know about. Not yet released.
Ooooh, hadn't heard of the last one! I'm surprised it isn't in Spanish with English subtitles, as the amzing "Of Gods and Men" was, in French. A very instructive time period in Mexico's history. I hope it will have the right message.
ReplyDeleteI've been especially interested in the story of Bl. Miguel Pro since visiting his shrine in Houston. He lived during the same period, of course, and died proclaiming the Cristero motto of "Viva Cristo Rey"
Cool. The guy portraying the president in Cristiada appears to be Ruben Blades.
