Is This Red Bull Commercial Anti-Catholic?

Tell me what you think...

Red Bull Anti-Catholic?

This is an old joke that's been floating around for awhile - and mostly told by Catholics. So they should be blamed for plagiarizing the internet?

The problem isn't the old joke; it's the fact that it is used gratuitously -- it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the product being promoted, so the only reason to use it is to ridicule the sacrament of confession. Catholics telling jokes against themselves is one thing because it presumably is done with affection. When done by non-Catholics, and for no apparent reason, it just seems gratuitously offensive.

Its just an old joke - one that I've heard from many Catholics. A joke that is in somewhat poor taste, but not anti-Catholic.

My first impression was whoever made the commercial was very high and they didn't think it wouldn't offend anyone. My second impression was that I'm sure the approval process to air the commercial passed through at least fifteen people at Red Bull Management because they thought it was funny. I will not be buying Red Bull anymore.

I agree with Catholic Reader, but the fact that someone would not see it as sacrilegious is sad. Full disclosure forces me to admit I haven't always been close to perfect in respecting Reconciliation, but a huge advertising team and a network reviewing my every word.

If it attacked one of the PC "Sacred Cows" there would be carnage in the street.

Unrelated to the controversy, I want to get a job where I can recycle old jokes and get paid. I've got a million of them.
