We have fulfilled the mandate of the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger, who advocated getting rid of the undesirables by spreading abortion and contraception. She once wrote:
"As an advocate of birth control I wish...to point out that the unbalance between the birth rate of the 'unfit' and the 'fit,' admittedly the greatest present menace to civilization, can never be rectified by the inauguration of a cradle competition between these two classes. In this matter, the example of the inferior classes, the fertility of the feeble-minded, the mentally defective, the poverty-stricken classes, should not be held up for emulation....On the contrary, the most urgent problem today is how to limit and discourage the over-fertility of the mentally and physically defective.

An article from the New York Times tells both sides of the story. But, the justifications for aborting a baby with Down Syndrome seem tired and selfish:
“There are many couples who do not want to have a baby with Down syndrome,” said Deborah A. Driscoll, chief of the obstetrics department at the University of Pennsylvania and a lead author of the new recommendation from the obstetricians’ group. “They don’t have the resources, don’t have the emotional stamina, don’t have the family support. We are recommending this testing be offered so that parents have a choice.”Killing a child so you don't have to worry about being tired, emotionally drained, or have less money is outrageous.
I have good friends who had several signs for Down Syndrome show up on their prenatal tests. The doctor asked "when do you want to schedule the termination?" He didn't even ask if they wanted to keep their baby! The child does not have down syndrome. But, the assumption was that the child should be killed if there is a chance.
They don't go to that doctor any more.
