Notre Dame Issues - Again

The Notre Dame student paper, the Notre Dame Observer, has printed a column by Dr. Charles Rice every two weeks about the Church's teaching. They refused to print his latest column, because it was about the Church's teaching on homosexuality.

If you want to read the column, it can be found here.

It seems the editor decided the issue was too much of a hot topic and he didn't want to deal with the fallout that might result. If this is the case, then it is shameful. The Church's teaching is nothing to hide from. Now, I have also read that the paper is still dealing with a cartoon that trashed persons who deal with same sex attraction (which has no place in Christianity). But, it is still no reason to avoid the truth.

I would be very surprised if the editor thought this a "hot" topic. More likely he thought is was a decided topic, and decided the other way.

I didn't find Rice's treatment very evocative. Repeating church teaching to a skeptical audience not trained to think along with the church is almost a waste of time.
Perhaps approaching the topic through telelogy, theology of the body or participative theonomy (all made simple for the audience) might have been more evocative, or thought-provoking.

Notre Dame is a total embarrassment. My brother graduated from this "once" Catholic University and I know he does not go to Church all the time. Parents do not waste your money on this school. Ave Maria, University of Dallas, and many other reputable and authentically Catholic schools. Check the Cardinal Newman Society for their guidance in choosing a college for your child.

Rice's column was probably left out because, like every column he has written in the past 10 years in the Observer, he found a way to make reading about a compelling topic altogether boring.

Not a surprising move for Notre Dame since the school is a hotbed of parties (sex, drugs, and alcohol)and of large Gay groups. Homosexuality is a choice and nothing more. Many colleges now teach that it is another race..God help them in their sin...

The Vatican should remove the title "Catholic" from Notre Dame. A case of false advertising.
