1st Amendment

The 1st Amendment of the US Constitution says:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
We need to make sure that these rights are guaranteed. Many people in this country and others are fighting to erode religious freedom. Here are two instances of such erosion in other countries:
  1. Catholic Bishops in the UK fear that the government will try and force the Church to allow transsexuals to become either priests or nuns.
  2. In Switzerland a court ruled that a Catholic Bishop could not remove a rebel priest from his parish.
